WHC is proud to keep it Canadian
Canadian-owned and operated
Unlike foreign hosting giants, WHC is built for Canadians, by Canadians, and we've cultivated a deep understanding of the unique needs of local businesses.
This is about more than just adding servers. It’s about providing even more choice and performance for Canadian businesses. With more options and a better experience for users, now is the perfect time to discover premium Canadian hosting.
Ever wonder where your online data actually lives? If you’re a Canadian business or individual, that’s a bigger deal than you might realize. And in a world where privacy, security, and digital control are hot topics, keeping your data on Canadian soil is more important than ever.
Put simply, data sovereignty means that data stored in a country falls under that country’s legal system. Sounds straightforward, but the implications are huge.
Different countries have different laws on data access and privacy. To put it mildly, some offer more peace of mind than others. If your data is stored elsewhere, it could be acquired by foreign governments or subject to regulations that don’t align with Canadian privacy standards.
Canadian privacy laws, like PIPEDA, offer strong protections and align with our expectations around how personal and business data should be handled. Hosting your data in Canada helps:
Protect your privacy
Data stored abroad may be subject to foreign surveillance and looser privacy rules.
Simplify compliance
Staying within Canada means working within one clear legal framework: ours.
Support local
Choosing Canadian-hosted services strengthens our tech sector and keeps jobs and investment at home.
Still thinking about hosting your data abroad? Let’s dive a bit deeper into the possible consequences:
Foreign surveillance and legal loopholes
Take the United States, for example. Under the CLOUD Act, authorities can access data stored by American companies—even if that data is outside the U.S. That’s a huge privacy risk for Canadian businesses and individuals.
Global uncertainty
Regulations shift, governments change, and international tensions rise. Storing data in another country could lead to unexpected restrictions, data access issues, or compliance headaches down the road.
Slower speeds
The farther your data has to travel, the slower your website, apps, and services perform. If your customers are in Canada, storing your data elsewhere could impact latency, compliance, and security.
WHC: Your data, your country
At WHC, we take data sovereignty seriously. With datacenters right here in Canada, your websites and emails stay on home turf, and we’ll always proudly support businesses that invest in our economy, create jobs here, and don’t answer to foreign interests.
Let’s keep it Canadian, eh?
When your data’s here in Canada, expect stronger privacy, better security, and a more resilient digital economy.
Canada has a way of creating standout content. Think Schitt’s Creek. Denis Villeneuve. We’ve got the creativity, the talent, and the drive. And when it comes to podcasts, it’s no different. Canada has incredible podcasts, made right here at home. And the world needs more of them.
That's exactly why PodCamp Toronto exists. Every year, podcasters from across Canada come together to learn, share, and grow their projects. This year, WHC was there as a proud sponsor, alongside the legendary Amber Mac and Javon from Papr Maché. The goal? Support the voices shaping Canada’s podcasting landscape.
Podcamp put us onto some incredible podcasts and creators. All made in Canada. Scroll down for the list!
The world needs more Canadian podcasts
Podcasting in Canada is alive and growing. According to recent industry insights, more Canadians are tuning in, new voices are emerging, and the country’s podcasting scene is stronger than ever. And that’s a win in our mind. Because we can all agree that the world right now could use more Canada.
That energy was everywhere at PodCamp. We met Canadian creators covering everything from Indigenous perspectives to business, true crime, sports, comedy, and Francophone culture. Voices that are heard not just across Canada, but around the world. And we need more of them.
The best way to help? Listen to them. Share them. Support Canadian podcasters.
What is PodCamp Toronto?
PodCamp Toronto is Canada’s biggest podcasting event. It’s a space where beginners, veterans, and media professionals come together to sharpen their skills and connect. Whether someone is launching their first episode or celebrating their 100th, PodCamp is where they go to learn, grow, and reach new audiences.
Since launching in 2007, it’s become a premier event for podcasters, content creators, and digital media experts. It’s proof that podcasting in Canada isn’t just alive—it’s thriving.
At PodCamp, we met passionate creators from all over the country. Some were just starting out, testing their ideas, and learning the ropes. Others had built strong audiences and were looking to take their podcasts to the next level. What connected them all? A shared love for storytelling and a belief that podcasting is one of the most powerful ways to connect with an audience.
John Leschinski: the heart behind PodCamp
Every great event has a great team behind it. At PodCamp, that team includes John Leschinski, who’s been leading the event for 11 years. He started as a graphic designer and eventually took over to keep the event running strong.
In the early days, PodCamp focused more on marketing and social media. Now? Podcasting has taken centre stage. More creators are turning to podcasting to share their expertise, build their brand, and connect with their communities.
John’s biggest advice? Just start.
People wait for the perfect setup, the perfect episode, the perfect moment. But you’ll never know what your podcast can be unless you put it out there. Podcasting isn’t always a full-time job, but it’s a passion that can grow into something bigger.
His perspective was echoed by many at PodCamp. A podcast doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful, and the most important step is simple: just begin
Canadian podcasts: louder, please!
One of the biggest takeaways from PodCamp was how much incredible Canadian content is out there, but how little recognition it gets. Unlike in the U.S., where podcasting is a booming industry, many Canadian podcasters operate independently and rely on community support and word-of-mouth to grow their audiences.
That’s why it’s so important to highlight and celebrate the voices shaping Canada’s podcasting landscape. Whether it’s an emerging creator or an established show, every listener, share, and review helps amplify Canadian stories.
Support Canadian podcasters

Final thoughts: more Canadian voices, more impact
PodCamp Toronto reminded us of something important: Canada is full of storytellers. Whether you’re a podcaster, writer, business owner, or listener, we all have a role in strengthening Canadian content.
And if there’s one thing John made clear, it’s this: every creator needs their own website.
You’re stuck at the whims of whatever billionaire buys the social media platform you’re using. A website gives you control over your brand and audience.
For podcasters—and anyone else with an idea worth sharing—a website is more than just a place to host content. It’s a platform you own, a hub for your audience, and a way to make sure your voice is always heard.
At WHC, we’re here to help. Whether you’re launching a podcast, blog, or business, it all starts with choosing a domain name and web hosting.

Automatic daily backups to help you quickly recover from mistakes or security incidents. They are a critical component of any company’s disaster recovery process.
External Backups are stored in separate physical drives for extra security, and are powered by JetBackup, which store optimized incremental backups accessible directly from your control panel.
By default, we’ll save 14 days worth of backups, but you can increase or decrease retention as needed, so long as you don’t exceed your total allocated disk space.
We recommend you add 20% more backup storage than actual disk space you plan on using, to ensure you can store multiple retention points. For example, if you plan on using 60GB of disk space, you’ll want to have at least 72GB of backups, so consider adding the 100GB External Backup option.
Website Acceleration
Why do I need a faster website?
A single second delay in the load time of your website can lead to 11% fewer page views, 16% decrease in customer satisfaction and 7% loss in conversions.
LiteSpeed web server is a commercial server software that doubles the amount of simultaneous visitors your site can receive, and dramatically improves the response time for both static and dynamic pages with powerful caching. It also includes plugins for popular apps like WordPress.
LiteSpeed is a drop-in replacement of Apache, so switching between the two is simple. Our team handles the installation and configuration for you, making the process painless.
The version of LiteSpeed you’ll need will depend on the number of cPanel accounts you have and the quantity of memory (RAM) available on your server.

Dedicated IPs
What are dedicated IPs and what are their benefit?
IP addresses are a series of numbers (like 192.233.57.182) used to identify resources on the Internet. When a website is assigned a Dedicated IP instead of a Shared IP, it becomes the only website that uses that IP address.
WHC recommends Dedicated IPs for a better SSL support, performance and access for your important sites. Without dedicated IPs, sites use shared IPs and must rely on a technology called SNI to function. Since SNI technology is not available on some older browsers, your site may be inaccessible for up to 3% of all your users. WHC recommends you add a dedicated IP for each important website (more than 10,000 visitors per month) on your server.
By default, servers are delivered with a single IP address that is shared across all websites that you host on that server. WHC recommends 5 IP addresses for most common configurations, which will include: 2 dedicated IPs for your nameservers, 1 dedicated IP for the server itself, 1 dedicated IP for your main website, and 1 shared IP for all your other websites.

Windows Dedicated Servers FAQ
Unlike Web Hosting (also commonly referred to as shared hosting), Dedicated Servers provide an entire physical server exclusively for your use, ensuring maximum performance, security, and customization options. This makes them ideal for high-traffic websites, resource-intensive applications, and enterprise-level projects. Cloud Servers, on the other hand, use virtualization to distribute resources across multiple physical machines and give access through a shared webserver.
Web Hosting Canada’s Dedicated Servers stand out due to their high-performance hardware, featuring enterprise-grade processors, SSD storage, and optimized network speeds. Clients can choose between fully managed or self-managed options, depending on their level of technical expertise and control preferences. Hosted in secure Canadian data centers, these servers comply with Canadian data privacy regulations while delivering fast and reliable service. Additionally, 24/7 expert support ensures that assistance is always available when needed. To enhance security, all dedicated servers come with built-in DDoS protection to safeguard against cyber threats.
Windows Dedicated Servers operate on Windows Server OS and are designed for businesses that rely on Microsoft technologies. They support applications such as ASP.NET, MSSQL, and other Windows-based software. These servers require a Windows license, which is included with WHC’s offerings.
Linux Dedicated Servers, on the other hand, run on various Linux distributions such as Ubuntu and CentOS. They are commonly used for web applications that require PHP, MySQL, and Apache and do not have additional licensing costs. Linux servers are generally preferred by developers and businesses that work with open-source technologies.
Choosing the right Dedicated Server depends on several factors. If your business requires Microsoft-based applications, a Windows Dedicated Server would be the best fit. Those who prefer open-source environments may find Linux a better choice. Other considerations include traffic levels, performance needs such as CPU, RAM, and storage, as well as budget constraints and scalability requirements. If you are unsure which option suits your needs, WHC’s experts can guide you in selecting the most appropriate server.
Absolutely! Transferring your website to Web Hosting Canada normally involves two steps: transferring your domain registration, and transferring your website content. Our team can help perform both operations for you, free of charge. Simply drop us a line to request a Professional Site Transfer.
