Important Security Vulnerability "GHOST" Discovered
An important security vulnerability, nicknamed "GHOST" was announced by security experts on January 27, 2015. It can allow unauthorized users to gain access to a Linux server and run arbitrary commands, or access the server's private data.
Web Hosting Canada's system administration team has quickly patched all our shared servers following this announcement and can confirm there has been no breach on our systems. Our technicians are also currently patching dedicated servers for clients who are currently subscribed to our server management services.
If you manage your own Linux server, you can patch it by updating all packages. On a CentOS or Cloudlinux server, for example, this can be done by running the following command from a Shell access: yum update
For additional details concerning this vulnerability, please consult the initial announcement from Qualys.
If you have any questions or concerns the Web Hosting Canada team will, as always, be happy to answer them!
