Cafe Boise

Café Boisé: Local Coffee on the Move!

There’s something special about a great cup of coffee, and it’s more than just taste. It’s a vibe, an experience.

For Café Boisé, coffee is a way to connect with people and bring warmth wherever they go. Founded by Léa and Maxime, this Quebec-based mobile espresso bar is redefining how and where we enjoy premium coffee, and WHC is proud to support a local business by powering its online presence.

Café Boisé team

From small-town café to coffee on wheels

Before opening their café, Maxime was living in Villeray and working in food service, while Léa worked at Chapleau Laroche Opticien on Laurier. They spent much of their free time together hanging out in local coffee shops.

After moving to the scenic small town of Rawdon, they realized something essential was missing: a café scene. So in October 2022, Léa opened Café Boisé right in the heart of town. Things grew fast, and the pair quickly realized they’d need bigger space, prompting a move to a former shoe repair shop.

Rental challenges forced the café to relocate again, this time to a small outdoor pavilion in the backyard of a neighbouring business. Eventually, the couple decided to embrace their nomadic spirit and hit the road with a mobile espresso bar.

A flawless pour, wherever you need it

Forget standing in line at a coffee shop; Café Boisé is all about bringing premium coffee right to the people. Their espresso bar is designed to serve everything from massive festivals to intimate weddings with the same level of quality and care. Whether it's a corporate function, a community hangout, or a local market, every cup is brewed to perfection.

And it’s not just coffee! They also offer matcha, teas, and seasonal specialties that use homemade syrups and fresh ingredients. Think pumpkin spice in the fall or fresh strawberry drinks in the summer. You can also find cool merch and coffee accessories on their online store!

Practice makes perfect

To become the skilled baristas they are today, Léa and Maxime took a course, binged YouTube tutorials, and learned from the best in the biz. But the real training? Drinking litre upon litre of coffee, refining their palates until they could craft the perfect brew in their sleep.

Sustainably bold

Café Boisé is deeply committed to ethical sourcing and sustainability. Their coffee beans come from responsible producers, and they even roast their own coffee in Montreal. By controlling the roasting process, they ensure a consistently fresh product that reflects their values.

Their dedication to sustainability also ranges from eco-friendly packaging to collaborating with local businesses that share their vision.

Where can you get Café Boisé coffee?

Can’t catch the mobile espresso bar? No worries! Their specialty blends are available at spots like Choco Chocolat in Joliette and L’Atelier d’Éco-Responsable in Rawdon. You can also order online and have it delivered straight to your door.

Need a recommendation? Maxime loves the blend of richness and bitterness of a cortado. For Léa, simple is often best: a good filter coffee or an oat latte, depending on her mood.

Earth Day 2025

6 Ways to Keep Your Business Green

April 22 is Earth Day, a chance to hit pause, look around, and think about how we treat our planet.

Let’s face it, big corporations need to own up and lead the charge in fixing the mess they’ve put us in, instead of spending millions on 11-minute joyrides to space.

As for the rest of us? There are still tons of ways we can contribute to a better future. In fact, small businesses have serious power to make a difference, one green step at a time.

At WHC, we run on 100% Canadian renewable energy, and we’re always looking for ways to tread lighter on the land. This Earth Day, we're challenging fellow Canadian businesses to think beyond reusable coffee cups and take bold, creative steps toward sustainability.

Here are 6 ways your business can make a meaningful impact.

1. Host green for a clean conscience

Ever wonder what’s powering your website behind the scenes? If your hosting provider runs on fossil fuels, every click could be adding to your carbon footprint.

Big tech burns through massive energy and creates serious e-waste. Their sprawling datacenters, often powered by non-renewables, guzzle electricity, and their “move fast and break things” culture rarely puts the planet first.

Hosting in Canada with WHC means your site runs on cleaner energy sources like hydroelectricity, while keeping your data closer to home. This means reduced data travel (and emissions!), and stronger privacy protections, all while supporting local green infrastructure

Keep it local. Keep it sustainable. Keep it Canadian.

2. Time to simplify

We don’t talk enough about digital pollution: Those massive email inboxes, duplicated files, and zombie apps clogging up servers and burning through energy.

Time for a good digital scrub!

  • Clean out old emails, unused accounts, and abandoned projects.
  • Streamline your website files and compress media where possible.
  • Audit your plugins and integrations. Less bloat = less load.

You wouldn’t leave junk lying around your storefront. Don’t do it online, either.

3. Keep it local and lasting

From packaging to office supplies, resist the siren song of big-box imports. Choosing Canadian-made and sustainably sourced products supports the local economy and reduces emissions from global shipping.

  • Need swag? Choose products from zero-waste suppliers.
  • Shipping? Partner with local couriers and ask about carbon offset options.
  • Packaging? Ditch the plastic wrap for recycled or compostable materials.

Remember, every step counts.

4. Educate without preaching

You don’t need to be David Suzuki to inspire change. Share what you're doing, how you’re learning, and where you're improving. Keep it honest and human.

  • Post behind-the-scenes content of your eco efforts.
  • Highlight your suppliers’ sustainability cred.
  • Start conversations in your newsletter or social feeds.

You’re not just selling products. You’re building a community that cares. If you're already a WHC client, be sure to share the love and refer a friend. You’ll get three months of free hosting for every successful referral, and they will too! And hey, that’s one more person hosting green with a Canadian provider that cares about the environment.

5. Green your team’s day-to-day

We’re not just talking about compost bins and LED lights (though those help). Think broader:

  • Encourage biking or public transit with small incentives.
  • Provide eco-friendly cleaning and bathroom products.
  • Opt for remote or hybrid work when possible. It's greener and often more productive!

Even tiny changes can help shift the culture.

6. Build a climate-conscious brand

Your values are part of your brand. Committing to the environment is the right thing to do, but it’s also good business.

  • Add a short sustainability statement to your website. Or a Green Hosting Badge if you’re with WHC!
  • Join Canadian business coalitions that support climate action.
  • Run Earth Day promos that donate part of your sales to tree-planting or conservation groups.

8 in 10 Canadians value a sustainable lifestyle, so make sure your customers know what you stand for.

Final Word

Being green isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention.

From coast to coast, Canadian small businesses are stepping up, showing that climate action doesn’t have to be complex or costly.

So this Earth Day, let’s move past the token gestures and start thinking differently. Whether it’s switching your hosting, streamlining your digital ecosystem, or just saying “nope” to more plastic junk, we can all do our part.

It’s time to make every click count. Choose eco-friendly hosting with WHC and power your website the sustainable way, every day.

Business Takeover

Digital Essentials When Taking Over a Small Business

Taking over a small business is exciting, but managing its online presence can be challenging. A smooth transition means assessing the brand’s digital footprint, securing critical assets, and optimizing for future growth. Maintaining an engaging online presence is essential for establishing trust and credibility!

There are tons of facets to taking over a small business, legal and otherwise, but this article focuses on what to do with the digital reality of your new business.

Here’s your step-by-step guide to making it happen.

✅ Assess the existing online presence

Start with an online audit to see what’s working and what needs improvement:

  • Check the website: Is it up-to-date, mobile-friendly, and secure? A slow or outdated site can turn customers away, so make sure things are running at their peak.
  • Review social media: Which platforms does your company have an account on? Are accounts active, engaging, and aligned with the brand? See if previous owners posted consistently and whether the messaging reflects the brand’s current voice.
  • Update business listings: Ensure details on Google Business Profile, Yelp, and other directories are accurate. Don’t mislead customers with inaccurate info!

And if there’s no existing website or any real online presence? Start from scratch! And don’t worry, it’s not as daunting as you might think with a trusted partner in web hosting, professional design services, and more.

✅ Secure and update domain and hosting info

Make sure you have control over key online assets:

  • Confirm domain ownership: Get access to the domain registration account, renew if needed, and enable domain protection to avoid losing access and possibly disrupting your business.
  • Evaluate hosting provider: Check reliability and performance. If security is lacking or the host is outside Canada, make sure to choose a Canadian hosting provider. WHC offers Canadian hosting you can depend on.
  • Update logins and security: Change passwords for websites, emails, and accounts to prevent unauthorized access.

✅ Strengthen cybersecurity and data protection

Protecting customer data and business assets is crucial:

  • Update passwords & enable 2FA: Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
  • Review privacy policies: Make sure you comply with data protection laws and update policies as needed so that customers are confident that their data is secure.
  • Back up data: Automate website and email backups to prevent data loss.

✅ Confirm or set up a professional email

A professional email boosts credibility and keeps communication seamless:

  • Use a domain-based email: Switch to an address like [email protected] if you haven’t already. It’s an easy way to establish trust, credibility, and brand recognition!
  • Redirect or update old emails: Maintain continuity by forwarding old addresses to new ones and updating client communication records.
  • Update email signatures: Reflect new ownership and correct contact details in all outgoing emails to ensure consistency.

✅ Refresh website content and branding

Make sure your website reflects the current business now that it’s in your hands:

  • Update business info: Check details like business hours, services, and team members.
  • Improve SEO: Optimize meta descriptions, keywords, and page structure to boost search rankings.
  • Ensure brand consistency: Align the website, social media, and marketing materials with your brand’s visual and messaging style.
  • Consider a website upgrade: If your site is outdated or slow, consider a redesign or professional SEO services.

✅ Optimize online reviews and reputation

Your reputation matters. If you want to establish a trustworthy, transparent brand identity:

  • Claim or update Google Business profile: Keep business details accurate and up to date.
  • Engage with reviews: Managing your reputation means engaging with feedback, not ignoring it (even when it’s negative!). Take the time to thank customers for positive reviews and address concerns in negative ones. This will help your clientele feel heard and valued.
  • Encourage new reviews: Ask happy customers to leave feedback to boost credibility.

✅ Rethink social media and marketing

Make the most of your social presence to keep visitors aware and engaged:

  • Assess platforms: Identify where your audience engages most and focus there.
  • Refine content strategy: Align social media content with business goals, ensuring posts are informative, engaging, and relevant. A mix of promotional content, industry news, behind-the-scenes updates, and user-generated content can keep your audience interested.
  • Introduce new branding: Roll out fresh messaging while keeping existing followers engaged. If needed, you can refresh profile images, bios, and pinned posts.

Don’t forget to announce the change in ownership! It’s a great way to connect with your audience, build trust, and show that the business is entering an exciting new chapter.

✅ Protect and manage intellectual property

Intellectual property (IP) needs to be secured when taking over a business:

  • Review trademarks and copyrights: Ensure all trademarks, patents, and copyrights associated with the business are properly documented and transferred.
  • Check website and content ownership: Verify that the content, images, and media on the website aren’t subject to third-party copyright claims.
  • Transfer software and licenses: If the business relies on proprietary software, confirm that you have legal rights to use and modify it.
  • Monitor and enforce IP rights: Keep an eye out for unauthorized use of your business’s branding or content and take action when necessary.

✅ Build a digital growth plan

Plan ahead for sustainable online success:

  • Improve SEO, email marketing, and ads: Invest in strategies that drive website traffic, increase engagement, and generate conversions.
  • Set clear goals: Define measurable targets for website visitors, lead generation, and online sales to track progress effectively.
  • Use automation tools: Save time and streamline customer interactions with chatbots, email automation, and CRM integrations.

Conclusion

Taking over a business means making sure its online presence is secure, up-to-date, and ready for growth. It’s important to maintain a strong digital presence, build credibility, and ensure business continuity!

Digital cleanup

The Digital Cleanup Checklist Your Website Needs

When was the last time you gave your website a good scrub?

We’re not talking about tweaking a headline or swapping out a stock photo. We mean digging into the digital junk drawer and tossing the stuff that’s slowing you down. Outdated plugins? Gone. Bloated pages? See ya. Broken links and forgotten tools? Adios.

Just like your home needs a spring cleaning, your online presence does too, especially if you're running a business.

Here’s your digital cleanup hit list

✅ Give your website a tune-up

Websites age fast. Maybe that promo you ran last year is still live, or your list of services is outdated. Is your contact form even working properly?

Start by reviewing all the content on your site. Update pricing, swap out old product descriptions, and make sure everything reflects your current offerings. Check your navigation too: if users have to click five times to reach something important, you're losing them. Clean, simple menus make all the difference.

Then there's performance. Run a speed test using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, it's time to optimize. Compress large images, eliminate unused scripts, and make sure your site is responsive across devices.

✅ Ditch the plugin bloat

If you’re using a content management system (CMS) like WordPress, outdated or unused plugins can add needless weight to your site and create security holes.

Audit your CMS and remove anything you're not actively using. A cleaner backend not only improves performance but also reduces the risk of conflicts and vulnerabilities. And don’t forget to regularly update plugins, themes, and the CMS itself. Running the latest versions keeps your site fast, stable, and secure.

✅ Cut the clutter from your tech stack

Take a hard look at your digital toolkit. Are you paying for subscriptions you haven’t used in months? Do you have multiple tools that do the same thing?

Time to simplify. Many modern platforms offer all-in-one solutions that cover email marketing, social scheduling, analytics, and more. In short, cutting the fat here saves time and money.

✅ Clean up hosting and email

Behind every slowpoke site is often a cluttered server. Over time, there’s a buildup of unused files, old backups, and bloated databases. Clear them out. Not only will this free up space, it can also improve site speed.

Do the same for your email. Archive or delete old messages, check for unused forwarders or inboxes, and make sure your spam filters are doing their job. And don’t forget about backups! Set them up to run automatically and store them offsite or in the cloud.

Let us do the heavy lifting. WHC’s care experts are here to keep your site in tip-top shape.

✅ Tighten up SEO and analytics

SEO is never a set-it-and-forget-it job. Algorithms change, and so should your strategy.

Review your metadata, keywords, and internal links. Are you still targeting terms that matter to your audience? Are your title tags and descriptions engaging (and within the right length)? This is also a great time to fix broken links and refresh older blog content.

Now take a peek under the hood. Check your analytics setup to make sure everything is still tracking correctly. Remove duplicate tracking codes and ensure events/goals are set up properly.

Need expert guidance for your SEO needs? We’ve got you covered.

✅ Lock it down

Security is the one thing you never want to "clean up" after it’s too late.

Update all passwords and use a secure password manager. Review user access levels and remove any accounts no longer in use. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible.

And if you’re unsure whether your site is secure? WHC offers proactive monitoring, malware protection, and regular updates to keep threats at bay.

Why bother with all this?

Because your website is your digital storefront.

If things are messy, people notice. But when your website is clean and easy to use, you win more trust, more clients, and more sales.

Not sure where to start? Let our team handle the busy work. WHC’s professional design and care plans are made for business owners who want pro-level results without the headache.

So this season, let’s keep things fresh. Your future self will thank you, and so will your customers!
